Croydon Harriers’ junior team gave their UK Youth Development league promotion hopes a welcome boost after an emphatic home win at Croydon Arena on Sunday.

The sprinters led the charge and three broke the 11 second barrier in the 100m. Romell Glave (10.85secs), Samir Williams (10.80secs) and Dylan Da Costa (10.99secs). The trio then teamed up with GB junior international Rob Sakala to clock 41.11secs for the 4x100m – the fastest time by any club in the UK this year. It is also a league record.

Sakala himself, ran 13.98secs over the 100m hurdles for a clear win.

In the middle- distance and endurance events Kieron Connor ran 1:58 to win the junior men’s 800, while Robbie Tambling and Jessica Moore won their respective under 17 3000m contests.

On the field, Emmanuel Thomas (4.60m, PB) and Sam Haswell (3.75m) enjoyed an event maximum in the pole vault.

In the women’s section, Tosin Salami enjoyed a Under 20 Women’s 100 and 200m double, and Kayla Bowley matched Salamis efforts in the Under 17 women’s category.

In the U17 Women’s 300 Rhiannon Gayle enjoyed a seasons best in her win, with Marcia Sey (U17W 80m hurdles) and Naomi Owolabi (U17W shot) also enjoying 1sts

Sophie Elliss was a clear victor in the 100m hurdles and women’s captain Sonyce Archer teamed with Ola Olufemi-Krakue to take the spoils in the junior women’s long jump.

With two fixtures remaining, Croydon are now in a strong position to return to the Premier 2 division after being relegated last year.
