Tribute to Pat Crooke
Tribute by Mike Fleet
We are sorry to report that Pat, possibly the least known of our Vice Presidents has died.
Pat was the devoted wife of Ken whom she fully supported throughout his athletics-steeped time as dedicated official and athlete.
Pat was no athlete, but as ground crew to a high flyer she was second to none.
She exuded calm when Ken became a somewhat stressed team manager or frustrated treasurer. Behind the scenes she helped to keep this critical aspect of the Croydon Harriers show on the road. For this we owe her a huge vote of gratitude.
Pat’s rock cakes were legend after home cross-country races, and when winter racing returns after Covid restrictions, culinary replication of those treats will surely prove to be a severe test for another bun baker.
Our sympathy goes to son Douglas and daughter Helen
