Surrey XC League round-up, 12th Nov 22

Over thirty Croydon Harriers took part in Surrey cross-country league action this past weekend at Wimbledon Common and Oxshott Woods.

In the 2nd Division women’s race, Penny Oliver took a superb runners-up finish at Oxshott Woods on the same day as her birthday. She was supported by Jenny Forde (103rd), Sandie Sarker-Bell (117th), Miriam De Souza (140th) and Jules Del Nevo (164th) in a field of 256 finishers. The squad finished 19th out of 51 clubs, and lie 17th overall. 

The men’s team continue to mix it with the best clubs in the County in the top flight of the Surrey League. James Hancock finished a classy 12th in the race which was won by Great Britain international Marc Scott from Yorkshire. Hancock was supported by Phil Symonds (74th), Pat Lucas (97th), Douglas Aikman (109th, 2nd U20) and Alex Penfold (137th). The rest of the scoring ten comprised of Luke Wakeling (140th), Lee Tolentino (157th), Ben Chapman (208th), George Thatcher (211th) and Sam Dorrans (222nd). Colin Oxlade was 2nd M60. The team placed 9th in the nine-team division. 

Young Ernesto Kelly finished a solid 8th in the Under 13 Boys race, while Eliot Peacock was 43rd. In the Under 15/17 boys race Kyron-Bailee Burke finished 14th, and there were league debuts for Aren McCarthy (83rd) and Zephyr Walinets (89th). 

In the Under 13 Girls race, Ellie Thomas was 31st, and Millicent Figueira (52nd) and Jasmine Bell (67th) represented Croydon in the Under 15/17s category. 

In parkrun action, Anna Corby was 1st home in women’s category at Long Meadow, David White was fifth at Uckfield and Adam Shew 6th at Colchester.
