Surrey XC Champs, 5/1/19, Lloyd Park, Results & Report

Thirty-five Croydon Harriers took on the County’s best athletes at the Surrey Cross-Country Championships at Lloyd Park on Saturday.

It was the Under 17 men’s team who would produce the highest team finish of the day, with the scoring Croydon quartet finishing fourth overall.

Isaac Flanagan (20th), Matt Maginn (24th), Nick Marshall (28th) and Theo Flanagan (33rd) all packed well in a competitive field, with support from Zachary Blair, Theo Flanagan, Dan Hill and Adam Shew.

In the Under 20 women’s race, Jessica Moore scooped the club’s individual finish of the day finishing 10th, while fellow Wallington Girl’s student Antara Singh was 22nd in the Under 17 women’s race.

Young Samuel Mowa enjoyed a solid Surrey Championship debut finishing 15thin the Under 13 boy’s race.

Six Croydon athletes lined up in the Under 15 girls and were spearheaded by Kyra Sethna-McIntosh (27th) in a field of 71 athletes. Gulcin Erten (40th), Alice Maingay (48th) and Leanne Moore (49th) ensured the team would finish 7th, with non-scoring support from Jenna Hooper and Tugce Erten.

Joachim Bambury enjoyed a solid runout in the Under 15 boys race, finishing 30th. Ebuka (57th) and Chizoba Nkamuo (60th), and Imran Salim (67th) completed the scoring team for 9th overall.

In the Under 13 girl’s ranks, Jana Sethna-McIntosh kept the club flag flying in 54th.

The ladies team finished 14th overall, their best result in these Championships in many years. Stevie Lawrence was first home in 18th, with Laura Marshall, Miriam De Souza, Jules Del Nevo and Carol Johnson-Alleyne completing the squad.

Peter Chambers made a welcome return to the fold in the men’s team finishing 49th. Alex Penfold (56th) and David White (87th) were also in close contention in a stacked field. Dan Barnes (164th), James Moore (166th), Matt Peek (210th) and Richard Hooper (239th) also featured.
