Junior team on brink of YDL promotion

31 Jul 2019

Croydon’s junior team secured the 2nd division UK Youth Development League title at Croydon Arena on Sunday with an emphatic win. They now face a nervous wait to see if they’ve qualified to reach the league’s middle tier.

Derek Kinlock won the 200m in 21.4secs to rank him 8th in the Under 20 UK rankings. Reuben Vaughan took the spoils in the discus with an effort in excess of 44m.

Also in the 200m, Tyvon Inniss ran 22.4secs in the Under 17 A race to move to 24th in the UK for his age group. Rachael Largie-Poloen won the 80m hurdles, and was well support by Ranae Baker-Manuwa to ensure an event maximum.

Tamia Meggie-Graham topped the long jump standings.

In an unusual development, Croydon’s middle-distance squad stretched their legs in the steeplechase events with wins coming via Antara Singh (U17 women) and event max’s in the Under 20 men (Nick Marshall and Adam Shew) and Under 17 men (Joachim Bambury and Zachary Blair).

There was a cleansweep in the sprint relays.
