English XC Champs, Parliament Hill, 24th Feb 2018
Croydon Harriers enjoyed a new club record turnout at the English National cross-country championships at Parliament Hill on Saturday, with over thirty athletes taking on the country’s best.
Stevie Lawrence set a new club best finish of 81st in the women’s race out of a staggering field of over 1100 competitors. She was backed up by Miriam De Souza (856th), Jules Williams (915th) and Radhika Selva (1112nd), as Croydon enjoyed their first placing in the women’s race in decades in 94th.
In the men’s race, Christophe Dormenval led the way in 336th in a stacked field over 2,300 runners. David Brown (870th), Glenn Barden (1023rd), Julian Forbes (1197th), James Moore (1277th) and Dan Humble (1419th) completed the scoring team who placed 97th out of the 162 clubs who closed in. A further seven men competed.
Jessica Moore bagged the highest young athlete’s finish of the day crossing the line in 111th in the Under 17 women’s race, while Zachary Blair enjoyed his highest Nationals finish in four attempts placing 201st.
The Under 17 men scored the highest team finish of the afternoon in 32nd, spearheaded by Robbie Tambling (146th), with solid backing from Adam Shew (260th), Luke (285th) and Dan Hill (297th). Johnathon Long supplied non-scoring support in 336th.
Leanne Moore led home the Under 15 Girls to 50th, placing 303rd. Gulcin (396th) and Tugce Erten (456th), and Antara Singh (457th) completed the team.
The U13 Boys were led by Ebuka Nkamou, with Douglas Aikman, Imran Salim and Chizoba Nkamou making up the squad.
Holly Perks was 298th in a field of near 500 Under 13 Girls. Jenna Hooper (330th), Jana Sethna-McIntosh (419th) and Jannah Salim completed the quartet.
