Croydon young athletes runner-up at Lily B League and fourth at the YDL UAG
Most of Croydon Harriers young athletes contributed to the opening of the league with an array of excellent efforts last weekend.
The girls and young women contested match one of the Lily Braben League series at Wimbledon Park on Saturday, where they took a very respectable runners up spot.
Debutante Tayana Porter set the standard easily on Saturday with two eye catching sprint victories. She won the U13100m in13.6sec and followed up equally impressively in the 200m at 28.6sec while over 300m Saray-Destiny Crosdale strode ahead for a fine 42.4sec PB.
Another newcomer, Audrey-Rose Agudo rose to the occasion as pick of the middle distance athletes with her run of 5:20.6 in the U15 1500m.
Atarah Watson shone as versatile triple winner. She won her 100m 12.8sec, the discus at 32.44m, a PB and rounded off with a win in the shot at 11.25m.
Further successes came in the field events where Lordia Owusu shone with a win in the hammer at 38.34m, an exciting PB.
Aspiring high jumper Ella-Jaide Wilson 1.50m high jup sees her 4th 1st year U15 in the UK. The team closed in with a trio of sprint relay firsts, with the U17s setting a league record of 47.9sec to clinch a well deserved second spot overall.
On Sunday the club’s U17 and U20 mixed team travelled north of the Thames to Ashton Playing Fields, Woodford, for a tough opener in the National Development. Their fighting fourth place augers well for subsequent fixtures.
Star performer of the week was U17 Farrell Fabusiwa whose totally dominant 48.25sec run constituted a new league record and was fractionally short of the club best. He also sportingly tackled the high jump to clinch precious team points.
Shivelle Marshall scored a sharp U7 sprint double with PBs of 11.89sec and 24.68sec wile in the U20 men’s 200m. N’Ziah Burrell notched a massive PB of 22,2sec, Henry Thomas returned to the track with a10.88sec pb in the 100m.
Evelyn Bosoko headed the U17 hammer with a crack PB throw of 42.07m with Kheyla Ekwe backing up very well with a B win at 34.29m. All four sprint sprint relay teams recorded super wins.
The young harriers team spirit was exceptional with several athletes going beyond their comfort zone in the interest of the club. The team 4th spot at this high level augers well for a higher spot later.
