Competition round-up – 15-16th April ’23

Croydon Harrier Stevie Lawrence broke the club record for the 3000m steeplechase in Walnut California at the weekend.

The Queens Uni graduate won her 3000m steeplechase heat in 10:03.95. It ranks her 4th in the UK for the event and is a National qualifying standard. 

Later, she would clock 4:23 in the 1500m to become the third fastest Croydon Harrier woman over the distance in the club’s history. 

At the Lily B Girls League, Croydon’s girls team faced strong opposition in their opening encounter at Ewell where they placed fourth.

Gabriella Tcheukam broke the U17 women’s shot putt league record thanks to a 12.70m effort and also won the discus in 27.20m

Track wins came courtesy of Gabby Reid (U13G 70m hurdles), Rukiyah Apedo-Amah (U17 80m hurdles), Casielle Murray (U13G 100m), Tochi Davids (U17W 100m), Kheyla Ekwe (U17W Hammer) and Atarah Watson (U13G Shot Putt).

The Under 13 Girls and Under 17 Women won their respective 4x100m relays. 

Final result: Kingston & Poly (285), Guildford & Godalming (283), Herne Hill (269), Croydon (261), Reigate (63). 

In the second division of the Ebbisham Boys League, Croydon’s squad made a strong start of their bid to return to the topflight of the league with a victory at Kingston. 

Kalvyn Mills had an exceptional afternoon winning the Under 13 Boys 100m, 200m and shot putt. He would then team with Ifeanyi Davids, Micah St James and Cayden Campbell to win the 4x100m. 

Farrell Fabusiwa won the Under 15 boys 100m and 300m, while RIshan Sankar would enjoy a double win in the high jump and discus in the same age group. 

Final result: 1 Croydon Harriers 143, 2 Hercules Wimbledon 135, 3 Dorking & Reigate 103, 4 Holland Sports 88

At the Manchester Marathon, Hasan Hassan clocked 4:20:15, while Sunanda Sarker-Bell finished her 22nd marathon in 4:25:31. 

In parkrun action, Phil Symonds and Katherina Warren secured a double first at South Norwood, and there were runner-up finishes for Patrick Lucas (Wilmslow), David Brown (Brighton) and Glenn Barden (Barclay).
