Comp round-up, 11-14th April ’24

Croydon Harriers men’s team secured the East Surrey Athletics League title last week at the season finale at Ewell. 

Croydon’s men’s squad would take the win by just two points, led home by race winner James Hancock over the 4.5 mile course. 

He was backed up by Ben Chapman (4th), David Brown (5th) and Joseph O’Keefe (20th) to ensure the team bagged 30pts just two ahead of hosts Epsom and Ewell.

In the women’s race, Penny Oliver would finish runner-up, while Madeleine Armstrong-Plieth finished fourth winning the W40 category and the overall league title in the process. Ciara Dolby and Leanne Moore completed the scoring quartet ensuring Croydon would finish runners-up in the team race. 

In the young athletes ranks, Kyron-Bailee Burke and Ollie Dixon led the squad home in 9th and 10th respectively in the 72-strong field. 

Ellie Thomas won the Under 13 girls league trophy and Aida Palomares-Dominguez’s fourth place finish would earn her third place in the overall league standings. 

At the Friday Night Under the Lights 10K at Battersea Park, Douglas Aikman would finish 8th in 35:04 with teammate Adam Shew 44th in 38:30.

Forty Croydon Harriers were in parkrun action on Saturday with first place finishes coming courtesy of Madeleine Armstrong-Plieth (Beckenham), Aida Palomares-Dominguez (South Norwood) and Phil Symonds (Cosmeston Lakes).
