13 Golds for Croydon at the 2024 Surrey Indoors
Croydon Harriers enjoyed two field days at the Sutton Arena last weekend making it almost a one-club ‘medal fest’.
Croydon athletes won 13 titles, were runners-up in seven events and took bronze in a further eight U23 International Derek Kinlock was in scintillating sprint form cruising through his 60m heat and semi-final, before taking senior gold in [6.84] – 0.13 seconds clear of the runner-up.
Similarly dominant was U17 ace Farrell Fabusiwa who stormed victory 0.16 seconds clear of club-mate Ethan Cort [6.97]. Croydon sprinters filled four of the first five places in that final.
Racheal Largie Poleon secured the senior women’s 60m title comfortably, in 7.66sec, with two other Harriers in the first three with her and with other 60m titles coming Croydon’s way, with U20 men Amari Jai-Anderson [6.93], U20 women Lia Bonsu [7.06], U15 boys Isiah Easy Riley [7.56], U15 girls Shivelle Marshall [7.99] and U13 boys Trey Lindsay [7.68].
It proved a wonderful championship for sprint coach Paul Weston and his talented and hard-working charges.
Four Harriers hurdlers struck gold too, with U20 Jasmyn Brewster [9.61], U15 Gabby Reid [9.46], U15 Isiah Easy-Riley [9.31] and U17 Ethan Cort, who recorded a 12.30, in the triple jump, all winning.
Croydon athletes shone in the technical events too, with evergreen Paul Ogun winning his fourth senior indoor county title long jump title, in a class of his with his 7.08m best.
Inessa Atta-Finn took the U20 women’s gold at 4.04m.
Ethan Cort took his second medal, a silver, in the 60m with a sharp 7.13.
U17 Shot putter Gabriella Tcheukam won her silver with a 13.32m put.
Tyler Roach chased victorious Croydon colleague Trey home in 8.36sec, with three other young Harriers in hot pursuit.
Ursula Moore, a first-year U20, took the high jump silver 1.45m, which was the same height which won the senior event.
The club’s bronze medalists were Akemi Samuels, U15 boys long jump 4.56m,
Cayden Campbell U13 boys 60m [8.36], Dougita Nana Danso U13 girls 60m [8.37], Rukiyah Adepo-Amah U17 women’s 60m hurdles and high jump, Saray-Destiny Crosdale U15 girls 60m, Tochi Davids U20 women 60m and Tosin Salami Women 60m.
